"Reciprocal Outpouring" - Acrylic. This work in progress was started during a live event.
As a little girl growing up in North Carolina, I used to play underneath a quilting frame as my grandmother and her friends would tell stories while sewing the pieces of fabric together. Memories of those geometric shapes through the filtered light still lay deep within me which now informs my creative process for expressionism and representational art. Much like being on the underneath side of those quilts, my eyes are still drawn to the obscure geometric forms in my surroundings and in what I envision in my mind’s eye. Either as a prominent element or simply suggested, these shapes are present in both my acrylic and mixed media paintings. Like the quilts I played beneath, my one of a kind creations are layered throughout with faith and reflection, community and heritage, and embedded with meaning.
